Earthy Strand

Earthy Strand
In the studio I rummaged through my tin with vintage sequins. I found a baggie with not only sequins, but also the most beautiful royal purple silk thread. As I opened it, I realized that it was a partially made necklace …
Early on in my San Francisco years I was stringing sequins in various patterns and now I sat down to decipher what was going on with this straggler.
gold, gold, gold, gold, gold, gold
gold, gold, pink, gold, gold, pink
gold, pink, gold, pink, gold, pink
gold, pink, pink, gold, pink, pink
pink, pink, pink, pink, pink, pink
pink, pink, blue, pink, pink, blue
pink, blue, pink, blue, pink, blue
pink, blue, blue, pink, blue, blue
blue, blue, blue, blue, blue, blue
The today me is a bit in awe of the me of my early thirties.
While I still have the patience and enthusiasm to string and bead, that particular sequence of stringing individual sequins to so subtly transition from gold to pink to blue feels like a time capsule I can’t relate to.
I left the petite sequins strand intact and capped it off with handmade ‘blob’ beads. By blob I mean scrap metal heated up to make the metal draw onto itself and form a molten ball that hardens once the heat is removed.
The handmade beads are in contrast to the manufactured precision of the sequins.
The necklaces is calm; the bright colors of the sequins and silk inconspicuously glow.
An earthy quality resides.
